Green Ribbon Campaign

March is a great time to celebrate our organization and all of the great things that Girl Scouts do to make the world a better place each and every day. Girl Scouts’ Birthday, on March 12th, commemorates the day in 1912 when Juliette Gordon Low officially registered the organization’s first 18 girl members in Savannah, Georgia. In March, we also celebrate Girl Scout Week. This year, Girl Scout Week runs from Sunday, March 12th to Saturday, March 18th. We know you love Girl Scouts, but let’s show our communities and neighborhoods how much fun we have Girl Scouting! Show your pride all month long by decorating a trefoil and tying it with green ribbon around a tree. This is a great activity to do as a troop to celebrate Girl Scouts’ Birthday and Girl Scout Week.

How do you get started? We have all the supplies you need! You can download and print special trefoil templates here. We have several different distribution channels for you to get your hands on some green ribbon. Don’t worry, there’s enough for each and every troop!

  • Our Mission Delivery team is working to get rolls of ribbon distributed to Service Units. Check with your SUSS and/or SUM to see if they’ve picked up ribbon for your troop.
  • All three of our service centers will be stocked with ribbon. If your SUM hasn’t picked up any for your troop, stop in and feel free to grab some.
  • If you’re coming to the Annual Meeting on March 11th, we will have ribbon there, too.

Once you’ve decorated your trefoil and fastened it to a tree, don’t forget to share a photo with us on social media using the hashtag #GSHNJgreenribbon. We can be found on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram under the handle @gsheartofnj.

We would like to give a shout out to Stella Perna (Service Unit Manager) from SU 70 (Basking Ridge) for the creative idea. They did something similar two years ago for Juliette Gordon Lowe’s birthday!

We can’t wait to see you paint the town green for Girl Scouts!
